2015 Bookish Goals and Resolutions

Tuesday is supposed to be dedicated to Top Ten Tuesday but since I don’t have ten bookish goals and resolutions for 2015, I’ve decided to just talk you through what I want to do related to my bookish world this next year – which is completely upon us and it’s freaking me out but hey, people say odd years are always luckier. Let’s see if that’s right!

The first thing is the most obvious one and is The Goodreads Reading Challenge. This 2014 I initially challenged myself to read 70 books and then I upgraded it to 85. Even though I’ve ended up reading 95 books, I’m gonna keep a very low goal in 2015 and just go for 50 books. It’s true that I’m always reading, anywhere and anytime, and sometimes I read faster or slower depending on what feelings the book in question gives me and I will probably read more that those 50 books anyway but my main incentive is not completing the challenge. Not at all. It’s enjoying the books I pick up. I’m telling you all this because the other day I saw a tweet from someone saying she had to read a bunch of graphic novels in order to complete her Goodreads challenge. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against graphic novels but her statement bothered me. I was like: “what is wrong if you don’t reach your goal? Is that so bad? Should I read things just to get me through the challenge or should I read what I feel like in the moment without thinking about the actual challenge?” Just so you know, I’m completely against that. If you are only thinking about completing the challenge, you forget about the main purpose of reading, you know: ENJOYING YOURSELF!
So, what are your thoughts about this? You get all stressed about finishing the Goodreads challenge? Or you don’t really care?

Secondly, I wanna try to do The A-Z Book Challenge (please note all the challenges will be within the Goodreads one really) which is basically about picking 26 books titles from A to Z. What I’m gonna do is write down the 26 titles and put them into a jar and choose one randomly until the jar is empty. Here is the list:

AAll the Lights We Cannot Sea by Anthony Doerr
BBecause of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea
CCinder by Marissa Meyer
DDaughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
EEon by Alison Goodman
FForbidden by Tabitha Suzuma
GGrasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith
HHalf-Bad by Sally Green
IIt’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
JJackaby by William Ritter
K(The) Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson
LLeviathan by Scott Westerfeld
M(The) Martian by Andy Weir
N(The) Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
OOf Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay
PPeter Pan by J. M. Barrie
Q(Red) Queen by Victoria Aveyard. Okay, I know I’m cheating but I don’t own any book which starts with a Q and this is one I’m definitely buying next year so we are just gonna go with that.
R. Red Rising by Pierce Brown
S(The) Secret History by Donna Tartt
TThrone of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
UUs by David Nicholls
VVicious by Victoria Schwab
WWhy we broke up by Daniel Handler & Maira Kalman
X. I don’t know which book to pick for this one so if you have any suggestions, I’m all ears!
Y(The) Young Elites by Marie Lu
ZZodiac by Romina Russell

Another plan of mine is reading more adult books. Since I was 17 or so I’ve been reading adult books but since I came across BookTube and the blogging community I’ve been sucked into the whole YA universe and it is true there is loads of great books within that genre because I don’t feel they are teen fiction (I’m still one of those who would differentiate between teen fiction and YA to be honest); some YA books are indeed darker and more mature but I want more adult fiction in my life. I’m also thinking about collecting the Penguin Drop Caps Collection and I guess reading classics are in order. In addition, I’ll have to read some for Uni so I suppose that would help as well.

Finally, Sarah @ Bookish Retreat told me about this 2015 Book Reading Challenge that PopSugar posted and it suggests different books to read and maybe I can get some ideas when I can’t make up my mind about what to read next. Here are the suggestions:

I believe those are all my reading resolutions or plans for 2015 but I do have some as well related to blogging. I blog because it is so much fun and it allows me to meet new people and discover more books and I don’t want this to become a compulsory task… What I’m trying to say is that I will be still an inconsistent blogger. It may sound badly but I like the freedom or not having to write certain stuff for a certain day or having to write reviews every week or whatnot. The only meme I will be doing is Top Ten Tuesday as I’ve been doing since September I believe and I find it so much fun to write. As for reviews, you know that I don’t review everything I read simply because sometimes I don’t have nothing to say about a book, unless is sent to me for review. In that case, I will review it of course. But if I read a book and I want to express my feeling, you’ll get a review. Otherwise I will keep doing my monthly wrap-ups where I do mini-reviews, which are easier to do and more concise.

One thing I want to include more though is discussion posts about different bookish topics. As a side resolution I want to keep working on my writing skills. You see, English is not my first language and sometimes grammatical mistakes happen. I do apologise for that and I try my best to go over what I wrote and change my mistakes but sometimes some slip through. I hope you understand.

And I guess that’s all. I hope you have a terrific start to the year and that 2015 is good to you. Do you have any bookish resolutions for 2015? Or any resolutions in general? Tell me below!

Reading Diary | February Books | 2018

Feb, 1st - 15:15. Finished the second book in the first volume of the Riyria Revelations and I was pleasantly surprised. I still think the world building is the weakest thing about the story because it's not greatly developed but the story is well-written and entertaining. I'm planning on continuing reading the series because now I'm intrigued enough to want to know how everything will unfold. Feb, 7th - 10:33.  I'm finally prepared to go and see the movie Call Me By Your Name because I just finished reading the novel. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It is a celebration of love and an exploration of sex and identity. It's quite explicit though so if you feel uncomfortable with that keep it in mind if you're planning on reading it. My full review of the book is HERE (I also talk a little bit about the movie).
